Walking speed: 4.5km/h
Times: The times shown are from setting off to the latest time expected being back in Benalmadena
Terrain: Flat. Includes urban paths, sand, wet sand, gravel path, concrete & wooden bridges.
Estimated distances: 7.5km (5 miles) for shorter walk and 10.5km (6.5 miles) for longer walk - or more as desired by those present.

Details:
Meet at the Benalmádena station to catch the 13:13 train to the Plaza Mayor station. From the station we walk to the beach. You can walk on dry sand or wet but wet is much easier, in this event consider walking barefoot, with socks or footwear as you so wish. We walk to Guadalmar then take a short break for food, toilet, hand washing etc. From there we venture to towards the footbridges that take us across the Guadalhorce river. The foot bridges include the longest wooden footbridge in Europe. Our walk here is through a nature park. Once through the park there is a choice. Return in 15 minutes via the nearest Metro Station or continue on the coast possibly turning inland towards 'La Luz La Paz' via el Parque de Mediterráneo.

If you intend to depart from a station other than Benalmadena then you should find us in the final carriage

Recommendations:

Metro-Bus-Train card You will need card to use the Metro. It is possible to buy a card at the station but I DO NOT recommend that because its use is limited to the Metro. Instead, if you don't already have one, get one of the green cards that are readily available in Benalmádena, in numerous shops, for the bus. This can also be used on the Metro.

Train If you don't have any kind of Renfe card then you will have to pay full price for your ticket. The 'Abono Recurrente' ticket is the first option on the Renfe ticket machine. It costs 10€ and it affords unlimited use on the local trains. It is valid for 4 months from 1 Jan this year, so it expires at the end of April. However, if you can do 16 trips before then you will have your 10€ refunded. All my walks involve the train so you might consider this in regard to a card purchase. You will need your NIE/NIF to purchase this ticket.
If you have no kind of Renfe card and thus decide to pay full price you can simply use a debit card as a ticket on the turnstiles but you must remember to register your arrival at your destination station. In stations with no turnstiles, there are special points for card presentation. For more than one person, on the same card, simply present the card for the given number of people. A green light will confirm for each presentation. Failure to do this will mean a charge to the final destination of the train.
