There are various kinds of doors utilized in building works that are classified by the location of the components, their method of construction, work operations and construction materials used. Doors are a movable barrier, which is built into an opening in the wall to provide an entry point to the interior of a room in the building. The insides of a building are linked via doors.

1. Battened and Ledged Doors

Battens are vertical bonds that have grooves and are joined to each other by horizontal supports referred to as ledges as seen in the following illustration.

General dimensions of batten is between 20 and 30mm thick.

The dimensions of the ledges generally are between 25-30mm wide and 100-200mm thick.

This kind of battened and door with ledges is suitable for narrow openings.

2. Battened, Ledged and Braced Doors

To ensure that the structure is more stable braces are positioned diagonally as an addition to battens and ledges , as illustrated in the Figure.

Braces should be 100-150mm wide and 25-30mm thickness is preferred.

Braces should be placed upwards from the side that is facing you, and then serve as struts, and they take the compression.

The doors that are made of these types can be used to create larger openings.

3. Battened, Ledged and Framed Doors

For the basic door that is battened and ledged frame work is offered as two verticals, also known as stiles.

Stiles are typically 100mm wide and, as far as the thickness is concerned, the width of the stile must be at least the total thickness of batten and ledge. The ideal is 40 millimetres.

4. Battened, Ledged, Braced and Framed Doors

In this kind of construction the door is made of battens and ledges, braces and stiles. This makes it more sturdy.

The braces are joined in a diagonal fashion between the ledges approximately 40mm away distance from stiles.

5. Framed and Panelled Doors

They are strong and look great when compared with battened doors. They are the most commonly used doors in every type of building.

Stiles, members with vertical sides, and rails The horizontal members are grooved along the outer edges of frames to accept the panels.

The panels are comprised of plywood or timber, or A.C. sheets or glass.

The doors could have a single leaf to accommodate narrow spaces or double leaf for bigger openings.

The width of stiles should be 100mm, and the the minimum width of the bottom and locked rail should be 150mm.

6. Glazed Doors

Glazed doors are typically installed on interior walls, as well as in colleges, hospitals, and other institutions.

The room's interior is seen through the glass doors. Light is also able to pass through the glass portion that is the doors.

These can be fully glass or partially glazed and partially panelled. Glass panels can be used to make doors glazed.

7. Flush Doors

In flush doors they are made of solid or semi-solid part is covered both sides by wood or veneer. Nowadays, these types of doors are popular because of their good looks and economics, as well as the ease of construction, and higher durability.
