Christchurch FOSS Gathering
We meet monthly (online since COVID) to discuss all sorts of stuff about free and open source software (FOSS). We've been going for a couple years now.
Find us at 20:00 on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at https://bbb.nzoss.nz/rooms/dav-rqm-3fq using any modern browser.
We do demos of software, presentations about coding, platforms, and stuff. We talk about what FOSS is (and isn't), FOSS-friendly employment, how to find work, how to contribute to FOSS (it's not just by coding!).
Attendees talk about projects they're working with, that they use, how others can use them. We debate stuff, help clarify confusing topics, and generally have a good time (meetings run from 2-3 hours, and people can come and go as they choose)
Some future ideas of what we could do: "help clinics" for people wanting to run FOSS apps, like maybe put LineageOS on an Android phone, or install Linux on their laptop, address any annoying niggles...
We could demo deploying a cloud server running Linux, deploying Docker containers to run some useful web app, look at hardening a server.
